Barely open for a few months before lockdown, The Sardine/Recess Ops music space was opened in in December 2019 in the former Ramona Bakery Building on 11th and Pacific by co-owners Todd Congelliere and Chicago native Isaac Thotz. The storefront features a bar and a pop-up record shop, jointly called the Sardine. Patrons can enjoy craft beers, wines, and even the eponymous sardines while browsing records, checking out the skateboard decks and playing foosball. Business in the front and party in the back at their live music space dubbed “Recess Ops.” The stage has already been christened by San Pedro’s hometown hero, Mike Watt.

Recess Records and Recess Ops Distribution is run out of a separate building on the property. Recess Records artists include Toys that Kill, Watt, and the Globs. According to Craig Ibarra, author, artist, promoter and record impresario, the facility is also “an in-house music distributor for various independent punk record labels located in the U.S.”  We are particularly interested in releases from Water Under the Bridge Records, run by Craig Ibarra and Bob Archer, which re-releases albums from old Pedro punk bands as well as new projects from various local punk luminaries. (It’s a small town.)

Shipping is free in the United States.
