Labor Day Weekend is about to begin. Due to the heatwave, my weekend will be primarily oriented around ice cream, central air, and a swimming pool, but if you need to get out, here are a few suggestions for a change of scenery. Just be careful to not get overheated.
Saturday, September 3 is National Cinema Day, and to celebrate, dozens of local movie theaters are selling $3 movie tickets! Participating cinemas include the AMCs at Westfield Century City and Westfield Topanga, along with other AMC theatres, Alamo Drafthouse, Cinemark, Regal, and more. Click here for the complete list.
Cool down with boozy ice cream spritzes, samples of vegan ice creams, and Olipops root beer floats, along with vegan bites, live music, raffle prizes, and a photo booth at the Vegan Ice Cream Showdown. Taking place at Cafe Gratitude’s Larchmont location from 2 to 4 p.m. on Labor Day, the entire event is just $20. You can buy tickets here.
The LA Times Food Bowl starts today, with culinary adventures daily throughout September. Many of this weekend’s Food Bowl events are already sold out, but there’s still availability for Eat See Hear’s special experience at the Autry Museum on Sunday, September 4. You’ll see a screening of Ratatouille and be able to purchase tasty eats such as La Sorted’s wood-fired pizzas, Mexican food from Border Grill, and desserts and pastries from Gemini Bakehouse. Tickets can be bought here.
Want to get a jump on your Halloween movie viewing? Summerween is coming to Rooftop Cinema Club all weekend long, from September 2-5. The Arts District Rooftop Cinema location, on the fifth-floor roof at ROW DTLA, offers sweeping city views, a state-of-the-art LED screen, a bar, concessions, and 11 Halloween (or Halloween-related) classic films screening this weekend. Choose from The Addams Family, Beetlejuice, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Psycho, and more. Tickets can be purchased here.
Dance DTLA, the free Friday-night outdoor dances at the Music Center, have been some of this summer’s most well-attended, lively events. This summer’s final Dance DTLA event, Samba Night is this Friday, September 2. Suitable for all ages, the evening includes a dance instructor and a live DJ and takes place on Jerry Moss Plaza from 7 to 11 p.m. Find more info here.
