It’s that time of year again!!! The Surf Guitar 101 Convention, founded in 2008 by Jeff “BigTikiDude” Hanson, will be happening in Long Beach at the Golden Sails Hotel July 26-28 2024. The lineup includes everything from classic stalwarts to modern instrumental surf music.
This year’s bands will include the amazing Mermen, outtasite Nebulas and a special anniversary celebration for the incomparable INSECT SURFERS. It’s not really surf without friend of The Beat (and Iggy Pop impersonator) Dave Arnson, is it?
And don’t miss the first “spooky” surf band, The Ghastly Ones, started by movie monster makers, “Dr. Lehos” and “Baron Shivers.” If you are into Halloween, monster movies and Screaming Lord Sutch, you are going to dig this band.
The Surfaris may no longer include the beloved, late drummer/singer Ronnie Wilson, but they are icons of surf history that cannot be missed. Conversely, Santa Cruz power trio the Mermen will be bringing their nontraditional spin on surf music to the bill.
There will also be films, clips, and Burlesque Dancers IN THE TABOO TIKI ROOM (!!!), and Tom Jackson’s woodie! Tons of vendors will be slinging guitar and tiki-related items. Load up on gear for the next big event, Tiki Oasis in San Diego!
Be sure to get your tickets before they sell out. This much awesomeness can barely be contained in one weekend! Two Stages! More than 20 bands! Delicious food! Did we mention burlesque dancers in the taboo tiki room??? Prices range from $50 to $200. Under 18 allowed with an adult (over 18).
