The Freaky Tiki Happening is Coming to Long Beach Oct 19th!

Usually for big tiki events you have to travel to San Diego or Palm Springs, but this one is happening right in our own backyard! Come on down to Long Beach Saturday, October 19 from 2-9 PM!

Presented by Flor de Caña Rum, The Freaky Tiki Happening is taking over Shannon’s Corner in Long Beach. The space features four floors of stairwells, a grotto, and a hidden entrance. Get wild with two stages, dozens of lifestyle vendors, the Marvelous Mavens circus performers, a bartender/mixologist battle, rum tastings, a costume competition, plus an exclusive sneak peek preview of the upcoming musical, Shag with a Twist !

There will be six Rum Tasting stations spread around the event on different levels. According to the press release, “Each patron receives a Treasure Map to locate the various rum companies, and when all of them are checked off, a free Mai-Tai will be waiting for you at Secret Island!”

Rums include Flor de Caña – our presenting sponsor: Sustainably crafted and naturally aged premium rum since 1890, Bumbu Rum, handcrafted from a blend of sugarcane selected from eight West Indies and South American countries., Mt. Gay, a refreshingly sophisticated Gold Rum from Barbados. Diplomatico, an elegant and complex sipping  rum, Deadhead Rum, a six-year-old rum in a bottle shaped like a shrunken head,
and Bravas Mocktails a complete bar setup sharing all the ingredients for authentic mocktails, plus they will have a mocktail mixology contest at 3 pm.

“From 2 pm – 8:30 pm enjoy hulabilly dance music from Shorty’s Swingin’ Coconuts, exotic Middle-Eastern inspired surf music from The Scimitars, St. Petersburg Russia’s vivacious Draculina and her band, plus headliners, “the spookiest band in the world,” San Diego’s legendary Deadbolt!”

“You will also view a sneak preview performance of the amazing musical created by the artist SHAG, “Shag With A Twist,” which premieres the following weekend Oct 25-26 in Torrance.”

In the Subterranean Speakeasy Secret Island Tiki Lounge stage, you can enjoy craft cocktails and a surf music festival from 2 pm – 8:30 pm with The Tequila Worms, Sant Anna Bay Coconuts, and Little Kahuna.

The At The Top ballroom features a large dance floor, art deco bar, luau buffet, circus performers, go-go girls, and vendors.

The Carvery Prime Rib Restaurant bar will be the scene of several contests, seminars, a competition in mocktail making, and a bartender battle featuring some of the area’s top mixologists!

“That’s three bars and restaurants serving tiki delectables and craft cocktails at The Freaky Tiki Happening. You can also try specialty drinks and a fourth menu at Shannon’s Irish Pub on the street level.” So come get your grog on and if you’re lucky there might be a pupu platter in there for you.
