This weeks food kick is Greek Yogurt! I eat this stuff everyday. Given my background this is a staple not only in my fridge but the fridge of my momma’s. Growing up, I was lucky enough to have home made Greek yogurt on a weekly basis but after I moved out I quickly realized I didn’t have time to make it. Fortunately for me, it’s become a trend to eat Greek yogurt as appose to the other kinds so now I can find it at the grocery store, (although it’s never as good as my moms). If you haven’t jumped on this thick creamy yogurt wagon, let me give you some facts before you head to the store!
In my fridge I carry the FAGE brand of non fat Greek yogurt. I love it for its rich creamy texture and its nutritional content. Only 6 oz of this stuff has 100 calories, 0g fat, 7g carbohydrates, 7g sugar and 18g protein. This is my go to breakfast with a chopped green apple, a pinch of cinnamon and a table spoon of slivered almonds. It’s protein content mixed with the good fats from almonds, keeps me full all morning and even gives me the energy I need to blast through my workout before lunch.
Yogurt is not only great for breakfast but it’s also a great substitute for anything that calls for sour cream as well as making dips and marinades. This is something I think we all need in our fridge. Its combination of calcium, protein and probiotics for your digestive system makes this a super food in my book! Here’s some recipes you can try to incorporate in your healthy diet.
ENJOY!
