Established in 1956 by Rafael “Ray” Vega, Casa Vega is located on Ventura Blvd in Sherman Oaks. Dimly lit, with cozy brick walls and exposed wooden beams, the restaurant has a lively bar and is fitted with comfortable booths and padded bar seats. The waiters here are very efficient and will even bring you drinks while you’re waiting for a table.
Pictured above are two items from the A La Carte section: a crispy chicken taco and a cheese enchilada. They were delicious! This is pretty much my standard order from Casa Vega because the portions are large, and I can never eat the beans and rice that come with the meals. Especially when paired with a yummy mango margarita…
My friend ordered the carnitas burrito, which I tried too, and it was amazing. We cleaned our plates and chatted over the din – one downside is that it can get pretty loud, especially on a Friday night. The young woman pictured below is the hostess laughing at a drunken older ‘gentleman’ (I use that term loosely) who told us on our way out that he was hanging with a friend he hadn’t seen in years due to “Obama-fication”. ?? We walked out before he could explain.
I plan to go back and try out that orange margarita on the Happy Hour menu.
