Tonight, Feb 14, La Luz de Jesus will host the book release and signing party for “Soft Candy” from 7pm-10pm. The 7″ by 7″ volume allows a voyeuristic peek into femininity through the drawings and watercolors of Danny Shinya Luo.
Artists in the East seem to be more comfortable with the duality of the woman-child, and Luo explores woman as nymphet and Lolita. She is able to capture innocence and the full bloom of sensuality without tipping over into prurience. The book is divided into chapters exploring women’s sexuality “as expressed through food, frailty, fetish, fauna and fantasy.”
Prices range from 150. to a little over $200 for the original graphite on moleskin. The hardcover books are fetchin $25 each. The first 100 orders will receive a signed, limited edition (1/100) book plate created specifically for this event!
All of the drawings in this show were created specifically for (and published in) the Soft Candy art volume (published by Last Gasp Books, and available for pre-order).
