Of all the seminal punk albums to have lapsed from print in the last several decades, perhaps none has been so sorely missed as the Avengers’ “pink album.” This is the real stuff, songs good enough to save lives, performances feral enough to leave scars. Finally available as a 2-CD set from Water Music, with the usual assortment of demos, live cuts and boombox tapes of practice sessions making up the second disc, it’s a record that should be on every punker’s shelf.
And lucky for us, Penelope Houston and Greg Ingraham are still bringing it to the stage, and their series of gigs in 2012 has been well received. Their west coast jaunt in celebration of the reissue hits Alex’s Bar this Saturday, with local heroes the Urinals sharing the stage, and we can’t think of anywhere we’d rather be.
Avengers, Dollyrots, Urinals and the Gay-Gays appear at Alex’s Bar, 2913 E. Anaheim St., Long beach on Saturday May 26, 9pm, 21 and over, $8 cover. Advance tickets available here.
Holy crap! Gah, I have plans! Please take video?
