The American Cinematheque presents Yakuza-Palooza at The Egyptian Theatre on June 27 and 28, two nights of Japanese crime films, including Pale Flower, Massacre Gun and Killers on Parade. The event is hosted by Chris Desjardins, or Chris D., former band leader of The Flesh Eaters and The Divine Horsemen, rock critic, filmmaker and film teacher. Desjardins has been putting together film series for American Cinematheque since the late ‘90s. He will be signing copies of his book Gun and Sword: An Encyclopedia of Japanese Gangster Films 1955-1980, a definitive guide that was twenty years in the making.
The non-profit American Cinematheque is dedicated to celebrating the best of film and video, from the classics to “the outer frontiers of the art form”. Tickets are $11 for non-members, $7 for members and $9 for students, seniors and children.
