LA Welcomes Back The Babys With a Gala CD Release Party!

2014-06-25 21.44.23Wednesday night, June 25th, the legendary British band The Babys were welcomed back to the Los Angeles area music scene with a fun-filled party that celebrated the official release of their first album in over thirty years, ‘I’ll Have Some of That!’

The affair was hosted by Joe’s Great American Bar & Grill in Burbank: home to some of the finest traditional “cafe” food to be found in all of Los Angeles County. Wednesday night it was home to some of the finest Rock music that was produced in the seventies and early eighties, courtesy of The Babys.

For Babys fans it truly was a night to celebrate, with a myriad of tasty treats to choose from, followed by a private concert which featured selections from the band’s new release as well as beloved Babys classics. However, for many fans who attended that affair, the real treat was getting the opportunity to meet and chat with the band up close and personal, and the band clearly enjoyed it every bit as much as their fans.

Sporting both a bright smile and an even brighter “shiner” Babys drummer Tony Brock happily posed with fans, signed countless autographs and chuckled when asked “How did you get that black eye?” Replied Tony, “I got in a fight with a piece of physical therapy equipment…and I think I lost the fight, mate!” Tony went on to explain that he had injured his knee and-shortly before Wednesday night’s gala affair-was sitting in a whirlpool bath getting hydrotherapy for the knee. When Brock attempted to remove his leg from the whirlpool bath he slipped and fell, forcefully striking the right side of his face on the therapy equipment.  Ever the “trooper” he didn’t let it stop him from delivering a bravura performance on the drums, to the complete delight of the crowd.

Next week, The Los Angeles Beat will feature an exclusive interview with Babys drummer Tony Brock. Among the subjects we will be discussing are the band’s history, why they reformed after more than thirty years and their upcoming Los Angeles tour schedule.
