Chinatown Summer Nights Kicks Off this Saturday!

chinatownSummer is back, and what better way to cool off than Chinatown Summer Nights? Taking place on the second Saturday of every month (June 14, July 12, August 12) , this annual event is one big party combining dining, entertainment, shopping and fun workshops for children and adults alike. Besides all of the amazing local restaurants like Hop Louie, Starry Kitchen and Golden City, there will be a fleet of food trucks, including Crepe N Around, Grilled Cheese Truck, India Jones, and Trailer Park Truck. There will also be a craft beer garden curated by Eagle Rock Brewery.

Live music will be played on not one, but two stages, one of which will be sponsored by the LA Weekly. DJs will also be spinning in the Central Plaza. This year the Culinary Stage will be hosted by Alysha Chan and friend of The Beat, Eddie Lin. There will be both cooking and cocktail demos. And who can forget the eating competition? This year brave souls will face a mountain of meatballs. Or was that meat balls? With Deep End Dining’s Eddie Lin, you can never be sure. If you love shopping, LA Event Co. Artist & Flea Market Vendors will be there with over twenty-five vendors selling everything under the sun – or moon in this case.

Artisanal demos and workshops will presented from 5pm-9:30pm. This Saturday, they include Brush Painting by Nori Shirasu, Face Painting by Tailing Wong, Fruit Carving by Thais Health Services Inc. and my personal favorite – Candy Sculpture by Shinobu Ichiyanagi.

Remember, the monkey will approach you, but please do not touch the monkey.
