Lovers of vintage signage, road trips, artful photography and the eclectic are sure to get some visual satisfaction out of a new photo exhibit opening Saturday July 12th in Pomona. Sign Geeks Vintage Neon Photography Exhibit features 40 different shutterbugs from around the globe who share a passion for capturing the magical beauty of old neon signs. These sadly disappearing gems are often neglected and the Sign Geeks group has banded together with the admirable mission to bring recognition to their often ignored glamour.
Sign Geeks came together a few years ago with the introduction of Instagram. Like always finds like and cool always attracts cool, and as various vintage sign photographers admired each other’s work, a tribe was born. The Instagram hash tag #signgeeks has exploded with hundreds of daily posts and signifies a certain in the know credibility when it comes to sign photography. The core group has organized photo safaris to locales that are still filled with these old-school treasures. Through each other they have found inspiration, friendship and a common connection.
This Pomona exhibit is the main feast following a first successful Sign Geeks show, Sign of the Times: California. This first show is currently running until July 17th at Perfect Exposure Gallery in Koreatown and is a magical and worthwhile see.
