For only three days next weekend, Spacehouse will present Farewell: A Wake for Deceased Furniture, a collaboration between artist Lena Moross and photographer Amber Clark. Friday, April 17th, and this Saturday, April 18th, the show will be open from 6pm until 10pm and on Sunday, April 19th, from 1pm-4pm. The installation includes large scale water colors, photographs, a couch centerpiece and slide projection of relinquished furnishings.
Farewell is not the first collaboration between Lena Moross and Amber Clark. “The two met over a piece of cheese. Amber was a cheesemonger at a prominent LA restaurant and Lena a passionate consumer of all things moldy. Love of food and all things quirky became the bedrock of their friendship.” Together they formed their own pop-up dinner club called “The Last Supper Thing.” The event combined an art installation with a five course dinner with wine pairings.
Farewell started with Amber’s growing interest in abandoned furniture, “What started off as a quick snapshot on my phone turned into an entire summer full of couch hunting, double parking, dodging parking enforcement and suspicious glances from passers by .It was exciting and loved every minute! I use my Brownie Hawkeye or my Nikon keeping the shots raw and real as I found them.” Lena was drawn in by one photo in particular, “L.A. has harsh shadows and unforgiving light – there’s no hiding or pretending here. For me, “The Red Couch” is the epitome of “Hollywood,” its charm, irony, vulnerability. A Blanche DuBois of sofas…”
All three days of Farewell will feature food, drinks and a cocktail specially created for the event by mixologist Gabriella Mlynarczyk. Friday and Saturday nights there will be a special appearance by the one and only Angelyne.
