The Taste of Mexico’s Fifth Annual Food Festival will be taking place on Saturday, October 17th, 2015 from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. The event is held at LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes, just west of Olvera Street next to the church (enter on Spring Street or Main Street). “LA’s most admired and respected Mexican chefs, restaurants and food purveyors” will be offering small plates and drinks. You will also enjoy a tequila tent, a mezcaleria installation by Mezcal Legendario Domingo, a variety of mezcals and wines, a michelada beer garden by Victoria Beer and Guelaguetza’s Miche Mobil.
Taste of Mexico held a preview night for press on Wednesday, and this is just a sample of what’s to come. Casa Condesa served our favorite bite of the evening, a shrimp ceviche on cucumber. They also make a killer guacamole. We loved the tamal de mole from Casa Oaxaca, who also scooped an interesting passion fruit and mezcal ice cream. Pez Cantina brought a yellowtail ceviche tostada with chile puya aioli, pickled onion and herb blossoms. Mexicali Taco & Company and Mr. Churro were also on hand.
Other LA Beat favorites that will be participating include Guelaguetza, Frida Tacos, Lotería Grill, Yuca’s, Pettycash, Guerrilla Tacos, Aqui es Texcoco, Chichen Itzá, Día de Los Puercos Food Truck, Ceviche Project, Coni’Seafood, La Monarca Bakery, and Artesana Ice Pops.
A new feature this year is The Taste of Mexico Mercado, showcasing Los Angeles’ finest local products, artisanal edibles, home goods and apparel. Yes, we are talking about shopping. Confirmed vendors include: Mala by Patty Rodriguez, Lil’ Libros, and LA Libreria. While you shop and enjoy the food and drinks, you will be entertained by A Poco No!, Jarocho Group Tenocelomeh and Metralleta de Oro DJ Collective.
