Scheduled to coincide with the publishing date of LA Weekly’s 99 Essential Restaurants, The Essentials celebrates its 8th year of showcasing the best food LA has to offer. The event takes place Saturday, February 20, 2016 from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. at The California Market Center located high above 9th & Main in downtown’s Fashion District. Over 50 restaurants from among the 99 chosen as the best in town by the Weekly’s food writers (including restaurant critic Besha Rodell, who was recently honored with a James Beard Award) will present tastes of their signature dishes.
Some of our classic LA restaurants will be represented, including Animal, Coni’ Seafood, Trois Mec, Union, Chichen Itza, Philippe the Original, Bludso’s BBQ, Sqirl, Providence, The Hungry Cat, Aqui es Texcoco, Little Sister, Jitlada Southern Thai, Lucques, Guelaguetza, ink, Connie and Ted’s, Mariscos Jalisco, Osteria Mozza, Mélisse, Night + Market, Park’s BBQ, and Guerrilla Tacos.
Also included are some new favorites like RedBird, Broken Spanish, Wexler’s Deli, Cassia, Jon & Vinny’s, Terrine, and Button Mash (Starry Kitchen). It is a rare chance to sample a dish from the hard-to-find Baroo, and Curtis Stone’s Maude, the toughest reservation to get in LA.
Guests will enjoy pours from over 25 wineries, curated by Wine Exchange, cocktail samples, music from DJ Tropikal, and shopping in the vendor village. A portion of event proceeds will be donated to Food Forward. Right now General Admission tickets are only $65. Prices will go up next Sunday, February 7th. VIP tickets are already sold out, so get your tickets now! 21+
