Start off your Valentine’s weekend right by treating your loved one to John Water’s new one-man show, “This Filthy World: Dirtier and Filthier.” John Waters is best known as a filmmaker, having directed pioneering films like Pink Flamingos, Polyester, and his crossover hit, Hairspray. Some people may not be aware of the fact that he has penned seven books, including his latest, “Carsick: John Waters Hitch-hikes Across America.” He is also spellbinding raconteur. He is charming and hilarious, and he speaks in a confidential tone that makes you feel as if you are alone with him chatting at a local bar. He makes his audience feel special with a certain intimation of “They don’t get it, but I know you get it.”
Waters’ “vaudeville act” (as he calls it) is a 75-minute show that invites you into the twisted world of his early films, and elaborates on his favorite subjects, like true crime and exploitation films, while acting as a cultural anthropologist for his beloved hometown of Baltimore. Saturday, February 13th at 8pm. Tickets: $40, $50, $60. Student tickets: $15, $20. Available via Ticketmaster or the Luckman Box Office at CSULA.
