June 27-29, 2016 almost 200 chefs and restaurant industry professionals will be riding 300 miles from Carmel to Santa Barbara to raise money for Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry. For nearly 30 years, chefs and restaurants have joined the No Kid Hungry campaign, raising millions to help end child hunger in America. The bike ride is to raise not only funds, but awareness.
In 1984, Share Our Strength was founded by a brother and sister, Bill and Debbie Shore, in response to the ‘84-‘85 famine in Ethiopia. The organization’s goal is to mobilize our individual strengths toward fighting global poverty and hunger. 1 in 5 kids in America doesn’t get the food they need every day. In 2006, Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign was founded to provide food and nutritional education to America’s kids. The Food Network soon became a partner, and with the Taste of the Nation and Dine Out fundraisers, No Kid Hungry became American chefs’ unofficial charity.
You can sponsor your favorite chefs, donating a set amount rather than a per-mile pledge. $25 is recommended, but they will take $1 if that’s what you have to give.
