In addition to our intrepid Editor’s post about the unveiling of the Lemmy statue at The Rainbow, there are other events happening next week that promise to blow the roof off of The Sunset Strip!
Ultimate Jam Night, the long-running free weekly music program founded by Quiet Riot’s Chuck Wright announced plans to hold a TRIBUTE TO LEMMY honoring the famed leader of Motörhead on Tuesday, August 23rd at the Whisky A Go Go. The show will be free. Yes, that’s right, the show will be free. I can’t tell you yet exactly who’s going to be in attendance, but I will say if you’re smart, you’ll want to get down there early before the place fills up. Publicists for the event have told me that “Some of rock music’s biggest players are expected to perform,” and announcements are coming in the next few days.
The TRIBUTE TO LEMMY precedes the unveiling of a permanent Lemmy statue at the Rainbow Bar and Grill. Created by artist Travis Moore, the unveiling will be on Wednesday, the 24th. Moore will also display his complete collection of Lemmy artwork at the tribute.
Lemmy fans from around the world are expected to descend on the Sunset Strip for two days of events. Thousands have already responded that they will be attending. No doubt this will be just like when Van Halen last played The Whisky and shut the whole neighborhood down. Our own Tequila Mockingbird wrote the L.A. Beat obit when Lemmy passed.
