Stu and the Kids has announced that their 2017 fundraiser will take place at Vibiana on July 30th. Now in its 4th year, the benefit draws big name chefs to help raise money to help at-risk children in Thailand.
“In 2009, Stuart Skversky, a Los Angeles rising star chef, moved to Chiang Mai to become a full time volunteer at the Wat Dan Chan (the local Buddhist temple), teaching local children English, cooking and baking. Recognizing a need to help prepare these high risk Hill Tribe kids following their graduation, he founded Stu and the Kids to better prepare them for adulthood.”
Along with Stuart Skversky, Neal and Amy Fraser, Chefs/Owners of Redbird and Fritzi, will be co-hosting on their home turf at Vibiana. Other participating chefs include the incomparable Jet Tila, husband and wife team Brooke Willamson & Nick Roberts of Hudson House, The Tripel, Playa Provisions and Da Kikokiko. You might recognize Brooke as the winner of last season’s Top Chef, even if she dyes her hair pink again. They will be joined by Jason Neroni, of the current “IT” restaurant, the Rose Cafe, Walter Manzke of République and our favorite dessert magician, Sherry Yard from The Tuck Room. Flying in from Cleveland for the event is Rocco Whalen and his entire team from Fahrenheit. I feel it is my responsibility to tell you that Jitlada has the best Thai food in LA, but it will scorch your face right off.
There will plenty of refreshments, including a fresh coconut bar, wine, Santa Monica Brew Works’ beer, and a Thai-inspired cocktail featuring Tito’s Handmade Vodka. You can also enjoy Thai music and dancing, a display of Northern Thai umbrellas and lanterns, a silent auction, a live auction with Billy Harris of “Hangin’ with Harris,” and activities for all ages.
The event will take place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.(3:30 p.m. entry for VIP). Tickets are $125 General Admission, $195 for VIP Admission and $25 for children 6-12.
