‘Dark Harbor’ at the Queen Mary: Prepare To Be Scared-Very Very Scared

I love to be scared.  That is why I go to horror films, not the gory ones, just the super scary ones. I like nothing more than to be so scared that I jump out of my seat. It does get a little embarrassing when I wind up grabbing the arm of a stranger sitting next to me. So far they never seem to mind.

Therefore, it’s only natural that for the last several years I would make it a point to attend ‘Dark Harbor’ at the Queen Mary and I can honestly say, it keeps getting better and better. This is definitely one of my favorite events of the year. The people putting it on do an incredible job with a great eye for detail when it comes to making you scream out loud from fright.

First, there are the seven terrifying mazes this year which include: FEAST which takes you on a super frightening journey into areas of the Queen Mary that have never before been accessible to Dark Harbor guests, the newly intensified INTREPID, also located on the ship, CIRCUS BIG TOP TERROR, DEADRISE-THE DEPTHS OF DARKNESS, LULLABY- HUSH HUSH DON’T CRY, SOULMATE-TILL DEATH DO U PART, and last but definitely not least, A DESCENT INTO INSANITY.

I musn’t forget to mention all the scary creatures that will sneak up behind you in the dark when you least expect it.  Even if you do expect it, they still manage to get you jumping every time.

But the mazes aren’t the only thing that will give you a spine tingling experience. There are many other attractions to add to the scary fun, including a 4D theatre, hundreds of monsters, a Voodoo Priestess and her lackeys, immersive attractions, live staged entertainment, a resident D. J and several themed bars and concession style food in case all that screaming makes you hungry.

‘Dark Harbor’ is a perfect way to spend the Halloween Season. There’s nothing like it. The terror begin September 28th and run for 23 haunted evenings through November 1 2017. Tickets start at $24 for General Admission (online only) and range up to $229 depending on the package you choose.

Joan Alperin

About Joan Alperin

Joan was born in Brooklyn and spent many years working as an actress in New York City. Even though she traveled extensively, Joan couldn't imagine living anywhere else.. Well one day, she met someone at a party who regaled her with stories about living in L. A. specifically Topanga Canyon. A few weeks later she found herself on an airplane bound for Los Angeles. Joan immediately fell in love with the town and has been living here for the last twenty years and yes, she even made it to Topanga Canyon, where she now resides, surrounded by nature, deer, owls and all kinds of extraordinary alien creatures.. Joan continued acting, but for the last several years (besides reviewing plays and film) she has been writing screenplays. Joan was married to a filmmaker who created the cult classic films, (way before she knew him) Faces of Death. As a result of his huge following, they created a funny movie review show entitled Two Jews on Film, where Joan and her husband, John would review movies and rate them with bagels You can see their reviews by going to youtube.com/twojewsonfilm. Although it's now only one Jew - Joan is occasionally joined by her beautiful Pekingnese and Japanese Chin.
