If you are a fan of festivals, you have probably attended one of the annual Greek Festivals at St. Sophia’s in LA’s the Byzantine Latino Quarter. Tomorrow night, January 27th, the Saint Sophia Philotochos Society will be presenting a more exclusive event to raise money for their charitable works. Acclaimed Canadian chef, cookbook author and food blogger, Peter Minaki, will be creating a special 4-course dinner for an “Epicurean Journey with Friends: A Night in Thessaloniki.”
The second largest city in Greece, Thessaloniki is located in the north on the coast of the Aegean Sea. Due to both eastern and western influences, spices are more pronounced in their cuisine than in other parts of Greece, one hallmark being the use of cinnamon with meats. Seafood, lamb and pastries are some of the commonly seen foods. Chef Peter Minaki will be taking a modern, sophisticated look at the region’s cuisine, which will also be expertly paired with wines from Wines of Greece. Some of the dishes include Grilled Octopus Souvlaki, Swiss Chard Dolmades, Phyllo Cigars with Bougatsa Cream, and, of course, the delectable-looking short ribs shown in the picture above. The evening’s festivities will include a Greek Marketplace, silent auction and no-host bar.
An Epicurean Journey with Friends: A Night in Thessaloniki with Chef Peter Minaki will be held on Saturday January 27, 2018 at 6:00p.m. at Saint Sophia Cathedral Huffington Center at 1324 South Normandie Avenue Los Angeles, California 90006.
