This weekend, Van Eaton Galleries is presenting “That’s from Disneyland, “The two day auction is cleaning out the cupboards of Disneyland addict mega-collector Richard Kraft, and it’s all for charity.
Saturday, August 25, 2018, and Sunday, August 26, 2018, there will be a live auction where you can get yourself an actual Dumbo off the ride, The amazing stretching paintings from the Haunted House and even the goofy sea serpent from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Submarine Voyage. This is possibly the world’s largest collection of “original pre-1955 concept art, ride vehicles, props, attraction posters, paper goods, toys and more.”
As with most auctions, there is time to view the collection beforehand. Richard Kraft decided to go all out and open up the collection as a pop-up for anyone to come view. It is better than any Disney museum, with cars from Monsanto’s Voyage to Inner Space, The sea dragon from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Submarine Voyage, and the stretching paintings from The Haunted Mansion. Of course, I can’t afford to buy one of the little devils from Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, or Jose, my favorite bird from The Tiki Room, but we can order the auction catalog here for only $40 and dream.
The event is being held at an abandoned sporting goods store in Sherman Oaks. The free pop-up exhibition continues tonight until 8 p.m. There is a line, probably longer than the line for The Pirates of the Caribbean and not quite as long as the one for Space Mountain. Sorry, no Fast Passes. 13730 Riverside Dr. Sherman Oaks, CA.
