Chinese pianist Yuja Wang, one of the brightest stars in classical music, will be performing in recital at Walt Disney Concert Hall on Tuesday, February 18th at 8:00 pm. Ms. Wang has become a critical and fan favorite, combining vitruoso musicianship and a strong sense of musical dymanics with humor, showmanship and fashion sense that are not always present on the concert stage. Her ambitious program spans the millennia of musical tradition, from Bach, Brahms and Chopin through to Scriabin, Berg and Ravel, and includes work by comparably lesser known composers Baldassare Galuppi and Federico Mompou. Also ongoing at the Music Center are the Weimar and Eurydice festivals. Tonight through Sunday, the Philharmonic are staging complete musical dramas from Weill and Hindemith, while LA Opera will be bringing Eurydice back four more times, beginning Valentine’s Day at 7:30 at the Dorothy Chandler. As part of the festival, the Opera is also presenting a new installation, “Lumme’s Dream,” based on an aria from Ellen Reid’s opera p r i s m from 10 am to 3 pm on February 22nd, free and open to the public. The video is a collaboration between directorJames Darrah and cinematographer Adam Larsen. For more information, visit LA Opera
