Top Tastes of 2011

Number one new bite: Son of a Gun Lobster Roll

Every time I go to a new doctor, they ask me what I eat. I’m always torn between shame and the urge to laugh. I just say, ” I try to stay low carb, with the occasional splurge.” If I answered them truthfully they might think I was mocking them, “Foie gras, octopus, boar, elk, caviar, uni, pork belly, and one time I had grasshoppers.” It just reminds me how lucky I am to be able to live such an exciting culinary life, and it makes me so grateful to all of the chefs, PR people and party planners who allow me to live this way.

For the most part these are the new dishes that wowed me, but places like Bouchon and Rivera will never be off of my top tastes list. I didn’t include El Pollo Inka, Mozza, Coolhaus and Porto’s although they are my go-to spots because I am trying to stick with the new tastes. Some of these places like Norma’s, Seta and Neive Ice Cream are destined to be my go-to spots of the future.

The list is in no particular order, except for Son of a Gun which wins first place!
