Our favorite local boys, Vinny Dotolo and Jon Shook, have made us even happier by opening their seafood-themed eatery, Son of a Gun, for lunch on weekdays. The cozy eatery is open for lunch Monday-Friday from 11:30AM-2:30PM. The Beat got a peek at their lunch menu, but it will change week to week.
Popular dishes from both Animal and Son of a Gun are on the menu, with small plates like our favorite bite of the year, their lobster roll, celery, lemon aioli ($7 each), the shrimp toast sandwich, herbs, sriracha mayo pictured above ($11) and kennebec fries, with malt vinegar aioli ($5). You will probably need two or three of these dishes to be fully satisfied.
Larger, lunch-sized dishes we love are the smoked mahi fish dip, celery, radish, crackers ($11), benton’s country ham, honey butter, cornbread ($16) and the fried chicken sandwich, spicy b&b pickle slaw, rooster aioli, which is definitely a belly-buster ($11).
Other intriguing items on the current menu are the oyster loaf, bacon, chowchow, crystal mayo ($7), frita sub: chorizo, cheddar, special sauce ($11) and mussels, tarragon, pernod, fennel, toast ($14)
They also have your salads. pastas, sandwiches, and if you are celebrating, the king crab leg, tabasco butter ($27) is definitely worth the splurge. If you work or live anywhere within the vicinity of Son of a Gun, rejoice. I’m sure the chefs will rejoice that I can now take pictures by the light of day and I won’t be sneaking into their kitchen anymore.
I love the reviews. It would be helpful for me if you put the address and phone # of the restaurant or at least a link to their website or Facebook page.
I normally add a link. I have fixed the oversight – thanks for letting me know.
