Epic Lightsaber Showdown in DTLA Friday Night

via Flickr Christopher TitzerNewmindspace and Lightsaber Academy present: Lightsaber Battle LA 2015 on Friday December 18, the opening weekend of Star Wars Episode VII. The lightsaber battles in New York City and Toronto attracted up to 2000 warriors. As of yesterday, there were only 299 lightsabers left (That is less than 10% remaining). Remember the giant pillow fight in downtown? Newmindspace was behind that, using childhood games and masses of people to create “living installations.” Lightsaber Academy is an organization founded to teach actual lightsaber fighting skills. During the day they will be giving professional lightsaber demonstrations all day so you can work on your technique.

How does it work? You buy your color-changing 3′ light saber on the website for $10. You will be able to pick them up at a nearby art gallery before the battle. . The exact location will be e-mailed to people who have reserved lightsabers and they can pick them up between 6 PM – 10 PM. If you already have your own lightsaber, you can just show up. The group will begin to gather at Pershing Square at 8pm, split into Jedi and Sith factions a little after 9:00, and the battle will commence. There will be a DJ, food truck, and temporary bar provided by Pershing Square. This event is all ages.
