If you have ever traveled to the East Coast, in all likelihood you made a pit stop at a Dunkin’ Donuts for the hearty breakfast sandwiches, tasty donuts, and delicious coffee. By 2014, getting your Dunkin’ fix became easier than ever, with the chain’s first stores opening in the Los Angeles area.

Dunkin’s westward expansion continues—last week, two new stores opened in Downtown LA and Atwater Village to great fanfare. We ventured to the Atwater Village outpost and here’s what we found:

The lines weren’t terrible. Even on the first day, we were served relatively quickly and were even able to find seating. (Wait times on weekends are certainly longer than on weekdays, but still manageable.)

Dunkin’ Donuts has not strayed from the formula. I am East Coast transplant and lived on Dunkin’ as a kid. The verdict? Biting into my chocolate frosted donut was like stepping back in time. The comfort was instant. There are plenty of donut varieties and breakfast sandwiches flavors to choose from—it’s almost a given you’ll walk away satisfied.

Does the coffee live up to the hype? We thought so. The iced coffee drinks are particularly refreshing, and there are numerous flavors to choose from. Blueberry, coconut, and raspberry are syrups usually not seen in larger coffee chains. Hey—its nice to have options!

Nearly 200 stores are scheduled to open in California by 2020, and—rumor has it—the next one will be in Burbank.

Free WI-FI is available at the Atwater store, and it is open from 5-11 pm daily. If you’ve visited the DTLA store, please let us know!

    Hi, donut lovers,
I happen to be one of the few remaining who frequented the very first Dunkin Donut establishment in Quincy, Massachusetts- My taste buds haven’t changed, however I remember the first “Old Fashion dounut with the “Handle.” That’s where the dunkin phrase came from.,I have just returned to Sweden having visited New England where the flood gates of DD are everywhere. To my shocking surprise here in Sweden, every Dunkin Donut restaurant went into bankruptcy in July 2018 and have closed permanently. I ask you, Sweden, How could you let this happen!!!

George Eric: Most likely beacuse we have a long ‘Fika’-culture in Sweden where donuts isn’t a real part of it, we have so many other pastries that ppl prefer, also – the donuts have been ‘so so’ – made in Spain, frozen, transported and after-heated in the stores here, making the experience rather ‘Meh’. I liked DD, but liked it more for the world of DD so to speak, the actual donuts didn’t really give you any whohoo-feeling.
