War Stories: Tales of 70’s & 80’s Punk Mayhem Told By The Perpetrators Themselves! This Sunday at The Roxy

This coming Sunday, Theresa Kereakes and Pleasant Gehman, creators of the fanzine Lobotomy, will host an evening of spoken word and readings from some of the people who made the LA punk scene happen. Featured musicians and writers include Flea (RHCP), Mike Watt (Minutemen, fIREHOSE), Jennifer Finch (L7), Abby Travis (Lovedolls, Sumo Princess), Chip Kinman (The Dils), Keith Morris (Black Flag, Circle Jerks, OFF! FLAG) and Dave Catching (EDM). DJ Lina Lecaro of Luxuria Music will be spinning the tunes. And it’s all happening at the Roxy, where most of these musicians performed in the bad old days.

If you have read Mike Watt’s tour diaries or Keith Morris’ book, My Damage: Stories of a Punk Rock Survivor, you know they are born raconteurs, dropping some serious knowledge and hilarious bon mots. I have never read anything by Abby Travis, but she is hilarious and has a certain insight to the mid-80s that these other people, most of whom who started out in the late 70s, could not have. I have only seen Jennifer Finch’s photos, but she was there shooting at some amazing shows, and you know L7 tour stories must be insane. There are some people on the bill that I have not read and don’t know, which will make for some exciting new perspectives and stories I have never heard before. Kereakes and Gheman describe the roster thusly, “We’ve all set the bar for contemporary music, raised all kinds of hell, broken laws constantly and gleefully…and we’ve lived to tell!”

Sunday, October 7th, doors at 7 p.m., show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $40 in advance and $45 at the door, but like any real punk, try to scam your way onto the guest list! Get there early if you want to get a chair, you old fogeys! The Roxy Theatre 9009 Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90069. Check out the Event Page. Getcher tickets HERE!
